Recently I was in a discussion about morality in which someone suggested that morality can indeed be scientific. I reminded the person of Hume’s Guillotine, which eviscerates the idea of secular ethics. Hume’s Guillotine basically states that a person cannot derive values from facts alone, only other facts. To derive values, one must first arbitrarily adopt an over-arching moral framework, and then evaluate the facts in light of the framework.

Still, the person persisted and linked to a commentary by someone claiming that systems of morality can be rationally evaluated using Game Theory, such as the famous test Prisoner’s Dilemma. In Prisoner’s Dilemma a situation is introduced where two prisoners are taken together in relation to the same crime. Both have to decide whether to testify against the other. If A testifies against B, and vice versa, both get two years. If neither A nor B testifies against each other, both only get one year. But if A testifies against B and B stays silent, A goes free and B gets three years. Interesting to think about.

Prisoner’s dilemma itself is an amoral, arbitrary test. It can be used to observe and quantify a set of results but does not clarify morality, nor make predictive results for a previously untested population, especially when a new version of the dilemma is rolled out with different trade-offs.

The article they linked to was posted at Scientific American, at the url:  http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/game-theory-and-the-golden-punishment-rule/

Here is why the article’s conclusions are non sequitur logic fallacies:

Testing a given moral framework would necessitate adjusting the dilemma itself to be in line with that framework. What’s good and bad would be different so the system of justice and types of payoffs involved would be different.

Even if the system of justice & payoffs remained situationally the same across the different moral frameworks being evaluated, the moral interpretation of whatever result was produced – what would be considered a good outcome and what would be considered a bad outcome – would also need to be changed to be evaluated according to the given moral framework being considered.

For example, if a moral framework valued telling the truth and punishing criminal behavior, then two people covering up the wrongdoing and therefore serving minimal time would be considered a ~negative~ outcome.

But if someone had Humanist values – the ideas that truth is secondary to manipulating outcomes and that crimes should only be punished if the perpetrator gets caught – then covering up the wrongdoing and serving minimal time for it would be considered a ~positive~ outcome.

Because of these differences it’s impossible to dispassionately ~morally~ evaluate the outcomes of disparate moral frameworks. They will always be evaluated according to whatever happens to be the moral framework of the person doing the evaluating.

This exposes the main non sequitur logic fallacy with rationalism itself. Rationalism pretends to be scientific and objective, but it ~assumes~ it’s own subjective morality as much as any other arbitrary moral framework. And because the scientific method is limited to the realm of facts, the moral conclusions reached are ~not~ scientific at all but purely philosophical.

Yet rationalists try to sell their moral conclusions as somehow being scientific, just like the article we’re discussing is trying to do.

Rationalists pretend all morality is relative, yet what they value is whatever leads to their own empowerment over others and personal enrichment. So their morality is that it’s moral to subjugate others and live off the efforts of others. Their morality boils down to: themselves as gods.

This is why every attempt to “scientifically” create a utopia by rationally manipulating people – such as in game theory – has wound up empowering and enriching the endeavor’s leaders while subjugating and impoverishing everyone else involved.

It’s sad but not surprising that such a commentary would be posted by Scientific American.   Much of the scientific establishment in the West is guilty of confusing arbitrary secular ethics with science, and for the same reasons- They are trying to help usher in that utopia they think we’re always on the verge of but which, sadly, we will never realize because of mankind’s selfish nature.  Hopefully one day they will become scientific enough to actually see that morality and science are separate entities.

In the meantime, when it comes to applied Prisoner’s Dilemma, the test subject is always the prisoner.

Two years ago Salon.com praises the fiscal policy of Argentina for expansive monetary policy of fiat currency manipulation, national macroeconomic policy and nationalization of key industries:

Two  years ago Paul Krugman, progressive economist and influential New York Times columnist, praises Argentina for the same things:

Krugman and Salon have long supported expanding similar economic policy in the U.S., and two years ago the Cato institute calls them out on this:

Two years pass.  What’s happening right now?

Argentina is defaulting:

I’m sorry but the madness of our President needs to stop. Now.

Does this make any sense whatsoever? With our Border Patrol busy trying to herd this tide of illegal immigrants, it’s just a matter of time until Al Qaeda or Iran smuggles in a suit case bomb or something into our country.

Read this first paragraph from the latest news story. Does this make any sense whatsoever? Apart from wanting to break the law to let as many people in here illegally as possible, at the price of responsible people who are in line to immigrate legally?

It should make you doubly mad if you consider that Elian Gonzales was returned to a Communist country under the guise that, “a child should be with their parent, regardless the cost”. Now the President wants to:

“U.S. Considering Refugee Status for Hondurans”

“Hoping to stem the recent surge of migrants at the Southwest border, the Obama administration is considering whether to allow hundreds of minors and young adults from Honduras into the United States without making the dangerous trek through Mexico, according to a draft of the proposal.”

He’s completely tipped his hand with this one.  If you had any doubt that this tide of illegal immigration has been by design, instigated by this administration, wonder no longer.

I’m sorry but our President is entirely lawless and reckless. This is literal madness. Please tell me if you think I’m wrong.

Stem the surge of immigrants flying them directly in?

Addendum

Average per capita GDP for Honduras for 2011-2013 was $4,591 per person, ranking them number 131 out of 185 nations on the earth. There are 29 countries where the per capita GDP is less than half of that, including Haiti at $1,703 per person.  There are 82 countries where average GDP is less than double ($9,188) what Honduras per capita GDP is – or 44% of the nations on the earth.  The U.S. is only 12th in the world at $53,143 per capita GDP.

By the way, if you Google “7.5 trillion divided by 310 million“, you’ll see the amount of per capita debt President Obama has saddled our nation with in just 5/12 years; this is wealth transferred from the U.S. to other nations, money which we and our children will have to pay back.

Interestingly we have now been surpassed in per capita GDP by Hong Kong, who even though it belongs to China still operates with economic freedom, which comes in at $53,203.

Are we going to fly children in from the 54 countries which have lower per capita GDP than Honduras?  Should we fly in children from the 147 nations producing less than half of the U.S. per capita GDP?  That’s 79% of the nations of the earth, including China ($11,904) and India ($5,410?  = Numerically very close to Honduras?).

It’s also worth noting that on the lists of countries with the most economic freedom, we have now been surpassed in per capita GDP by 3 of the nations with more economic freedom than we have.  Of the remaining 8 with greater per capita GDP, 6 are major oil producers and 2 are major banking centers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28PPP%29_per_capita
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_economic_freedom

On average President Obama has added 1.4 Trillion ~per year~ to the national debt since he’s been in office. That’s wealth transferred away from the U.S. to nations like China.

That number – 1.4 Trillion – is equal to $4,400 ~per capita per year~ for the U.S.  This means every month the Federal government has transferred almost $370 of wealth ~per U.S. citizen~ to foreign nations and bankers.

Every day you’re getting up and walking around, the Federal government under President Obama has been transferring more than $12 of your future wealth – you personally, because all of us will pay the price eventually ~WITH interest~ in the form of taxes and inflation – more than $12 of your future wealth to foreign and private powers.

Imagine the President coming into your home, opening your wallet and taking out $15.  And then opening up your wife’s purse and taking $15 out of that.  And then going to each of your kid’s piggy banks and counting out $15 in change per child.  On Sunday.  And then, on Monday, coming back into your house, fishing out your wallet, and removing $15.  And then going to your wife’s purse…  Each and every day.  For 5 1/2 years.  That’s exactly what your President and his Democratic Senate have done.  For over 2000 days in a row now.

And you thought you’ve been just breaking even for the last 5 1/2 years.

The millions who have “opted out” of the labor market are a drop in the bucket compared to what’s going to happen when our nation faces the real repercussions of having more consumers than producers, and when the interest from the Trillions in debt catches up to us. This kind of thing only ends one way – devaluation of currency and poverty.

President Obama is presiding over the largest transfer in wealth in the history of the world BY FAR, and it’s away from the U.S.

This was the dream of his father – a Kenyan National Socialist who hated Britain and all other first world “colonial” powers, the dream of his anti-American, Communist grandfather and friends. It was the dream of his community-organizing predecessor, Saul Alinsky. The impoverishing and diminishment of the most unjust, Capitalist, colonial power in the world in their eyes.

And many, many progressive leaders feel exactly the same.

Google it.

And don’t forget to Google “7.5 trillion divided by 310 million”

U.S. Constitution Article VI, Section 3:

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

No religious test shall be required as a qualification for public office.  But our President, in showing his lack of respect for individuals and the U.S. Constitution, is now requiring a religious test for charities who do work with the Government.  Specifically, Christian groups like World Vision, World Relief and Catholic Charities will be prohibited from working together with the government unless they hire individuals who choose to pursue lifestyles which are at odds with the group’s faiths.

There is a world of difference between a person’s DNA – what they are – and aspects of lifestyle which they choose to exercise.  Some people take vows of chastity.  Some people pursue marriage.  Others do not.  Discriminating against religious groups based on freedom of association in an area of behavior is reprehensible.  Mark my words, if this form of religious discrimination is tolerated, the next thing the President will probably do is apply the same religious test to church tax exempt status.

Ironically, the already existing threat to church’s tax exempt statuses if a group simply speaks out about politics is itself an arbitrary and capricious concept made up in it’s present form by President Johnson when he was a Senator, because church groups and non profits were speaking out against his voter fraud and progressive agenda.  For 230 years before this, churches were the civic centers of communities.  Politics were freely discussed, as were social issues of the day.  It would do America much good to get back to that model.

Again, no person should be discriminated against for what they are.  We do not get to choose our genealogy and the DNA which we are born with.  But we do get to choose our behaviors and have freedom of association.  For organizations of religious faith, just like any other organization, there are standards for membership and leadership.  Those standards should line up with the  holy texts and teachings of the given institution.  Otherwise, religious freedom is at stake.

Headline today:  REPORT: Judge Who Sentenced Saddam Hussein to Death – Captured & Executed by ISIS

This is what happens to the rule of law under a President who tells outright lies to get reelected.  If people had looked beyond “you can keep your doctor”, and gas prices mysteriously going down 50 cents per gallon in “battleground states” in the months leading up to the election, they would have seen things the President has said that are true – that he wants to “fundamentally transform America” (and he’s well on his way), that he says he carries the “dreams of my father” (his father was a sold-out, vocal Kenyan national socialist) and that he hired a man to be energy secretary who three months earlier had said, “we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”  Well, Chu’s dreams of gas prices being the levels of Europe are now well on their way.  But the cost of our President’s desire to humble and lower the United States in the view of the world has been loss of the rule of law, both here and elsewhere.

I can’t express how ghastly the above headline feels.  What a step backwards.  Saddam Husein came to power through mass executions, the same type happening now as Iraq is being allowed to fall into the hands of radicals Islamists.  If you have any question what kind of people these are just bing “Saddam throwing people from rooftops”.  I’ve seen the videos.  This is pure evil.  The President’s attitude seems to be, “Well, this demostrates a failure for Republicans, and we should respect all Muslims, and the U.S. shouldn’t be a colonial power like Britain was in Kenya.”.

Seriously, can anyone offer any other explanation?

It’s sick.
